Peter Ablinger:
INSTRUMENTS & (SKETCHBOOKS)
from: "Instruments &"

2015
for Ensemble and Electronics, ca. 35'

"Instruments & Audience", drawing from the score for "Instruments & (Sketchbooks)"

detail from section 7, "Instruments & Audience" with Ensemble Dedalus, Albi 2017
listen, 0:41 (alternative player)

Excerpt from the preface:

The Ensemble:
The Instrumentation is variable but the Ensemble should not be too small. The piece is originally written for a collaboration of the 2 Ensembles 'Konzert Minimal' and 'Dedalus'. The 1st section (Bassoon and Instruments) therefore exists in such instrumentation: fl, bcl, bsn, tbn, el-guit, acc, 2va, vc, cb. But many other combinations are possible, especially for instruments that are able to play sustained microtonal pitches. The combination of instruments should be able to represent the wide spectrums of e.g. the "Phonography" pieces with its very low up to very high pitches. If no bassoon is available you might leave away the 1st section.

The Sections:
1. Bassoon and Instruments, 44"-88"
2. Instruments & Phonographies ("Plabutschtunnel"), ca. 9'52"
3. Instruments & Soundtrack, ca. 3'23"
4. Things 1-3, ca. 5'52"
5. Verticales, ca. 5'58"
6. Instruments & Phonographies ("Pendlerbus"), ca. 2'55"
7. Instruments & Audience, e.g. 2'
8. Thing, ca. 2'08"

Set-up on stage:
va1 - lsp1 - other instruments - lsp2 - va2
The position of 2 high strings at the very left and right is only important for Nr.5 'Verticales'.
